About the Committee
The United Nations has six committees that gather annually to discuss and tackle both global and regional problems, which are mainly called “General Assembly” committees. The Disarmament and Security Committee is one of them, in fact, it is usually referred to as the first General Assembly, though the numbering does not convey any meaning. The committee, along with the rest of the General Assembly committees, plays a pivotal role in international policymaking, creating a guideline for arms control and nuclear weapons proliferation, resolving regional conflicts, and serves as an advisory board for the United Nations Security Council, which is tasked with safeguarding the stability of the international community. This committee looks into the gameverse of “Call of Duty - Advanced Warfare” where private military companies (PMCs) have as much power in military and political matters as independent countries. The international community needs to quickly find a way to regulate PMCs without making the world less stable as security becomes more outsourced. International agreements that create strict licensing systems, require transparency, and set precise limits on the range of PMC operations have the potential to make oversight work better. The trajectory of global security lies within your purview. As you commence your work in this committee, employ rigorous critical analysis and a commitment to principled diplomacy. The resolutions you adopt will significantly influence the balance of power and the legal frameworks governing contemporary warfare. One last thing, people, you are now in charge of who controls the future of warfare, not just state representatives.
