About the Committee

The European Parliament, as the co-legislator of the European Union, continues to be one of the most vital platforms for political debates and decision-making processes at the EU level. Sharing the power to adopt and amend legislative proposals and approve the EU budget with the Council of the European Union, the Parliament is a fundamental co-decision maker under the umbrella of the Union.Hosting 720 Members of the European Parliament (MEP) in its current term (2024-2029), this institution is a strategic partner of the European Commission. It plays an active role in many areas, from the election of the Commission President to the approval of the Commission’s work, from ensuring accountability to overseeing legislative procedures and carrying out various forms of cooperation. In its procedural functioning, the Parliament directly represents European citizens. In the sessions, delegates act as Members of the European Parliament to establish an environment of democratic debate and negotiation. The decision-making mechanism consists of the steps of comprehensively examining legislative proposals, submitting necessary amendments, and deciding on the final texts through a joint voting procedure.
