UNFCCC: COP31

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is an international environmental treaty adopted in 1992 with the primary objective of addressing climate change and establishing a framework for global cooperation against its impacts. The UNFCCC serves as a central platform where states come together to negotiate climate policies, strengthen international commitments, and coordinate collective action. Through this framework, countries discuss issues including greenhouse gas emissions, climate adaptation, mitigation, financial support, technology transfer, and the particular needs of developing and climate-vulnerable states. The Convention also provides the foundation for subsequent international agreements, most notably the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement. The UNFCCC plays a crucial role in bridging national climate policies with broader international objectives.
